Genre: Fantasy
Pages/Length: 416 pages

★★☆☆☆ 2.5 stars

Book Summary:
Scarlett Dragna and her sister Donatella have always dreamt of attending Caraval, an annual interactive performance where everything is not as it seems. For the first time, not only are Scarlett and Donatella invited, but they are special guests of Legend, the man behind it all.

Book Review:
I loved the concept of this book but the story itself really confused me. I thought that most of the events were strange and far fetched, and by the end of the book I found myself completely skimming it. I liked the characters and I thought the “everything is not as it seems” idea was cool, but there were random characters appearing out of nowhere and it felt like I was in a fever dream. While I guess that was the point, I honestly had trouble keeping track of what was going on.

Quotes:
“’No one is truly honest,’ Nigel answered. ‘Even if we don’t lie to others, we often lie to ourselves. And the word good means different things to different people.’”

Spoilers:
I liked that the game itself involved Scarlett and Donatella, but it just got too strange in my opinion.
