Book Review:
This was not my favorite Colleen Hoover book. I found the characters to be shallow and I felt that Tate had no respect for herself. I thought that it was very cliche and felt like I was experiencing a cheesy romantic comedy with a predictable ending. None of the characters had any quirks or characteristics that differentiated them from anyone else. In fact, I could hardly tell Tate apart from Rachel as a character. Same with Ian, Corbin and Miles. The only character that was truly unique and had traits different from the others was Dillon. I liked Cap too. Miles’ past was interesting but I couldn’t stand the way that it was written because it reminded me of something a middle school girl would scribble in a diary. I felt that those chapters didn’t accurately capture what it’s like to be in love, it just felt like Miles had a little school girl crush. Though I didn’t love this novel, it was mildly entertaining, and for those who do enjoy cheesy romantic comedies then this book is for probably better for you.

Quotes:
“‘God gives us ugliness so we don’t take the beautiful things for granted.'”
“‘I suppose if a man lived through the ugliest side of love, he might never want to experience it again.'”
“Ugly love becomes you. Consumes you. Makes you hate it all.”

Spoilers:
The ending was predictable, and I didn’t like that Miles visited Rachel. I found it unrealistic, and believe that moving on is better closure than revisiting the past. I also strongly disliked how that chapter was from Rachel’s perspective. It made no sense considering that the entire rest of the book was narrated by either Tate or Miles. I believe that her leaving Miles after the accident was a terrible thing to do, however I believe that it was the right decision on Hoover’s behalf because this choice really emphasized just how young Rachel and Miles were throughout their love story and shared tragedy. It highlighted how immature they both were through their experiences together.
